While working on track laying on Saturday we had a derailment. Still don't know what happened. We were going in reverse and then we were on the ground.
Here's a few pictures of the bridge progress for the last month. It's almost done and rail has now shipped from RMI. It only has taken them 6 months to fill my rail order.
Now have three bridge footings installed. Had a two and a half week delay due to snow. Only three more footings to go and them we start the bridge construction. Weather man calling for snow again tomorrow. More delays.
The Black Forest and Squirrel Creek Railroad was founded when my wife (Tammy) and I (Tom) moved from California to Colorado Springs, Co in September 2005. We were able to find a home with 5.6 acres of property and a 1200 sq. ft. pole barn shop. Oh yes the house is nice too! The railroad’s name comes from our location in the northern part of Colorado Springs and the closest creek near us, Black Squirrel Creek.
Work began on our mountain railroad ( we’re at 7,300 feet elevation) in the summer of 2007 with some surveying and rough grading. Railroad tie production was at fast pace this year with 1600 ties being completed. All of the outside work is stopped during the winter due to snow and frozen ground.
In 2008 more rough grading was completed. During summer the turntable and inside storage track were completed and during the fall our first 100 feet of track was laid. Update! _ We now have 810 feet of track, including two switches and one siding.
